Alex Walmsley

Associate Solicitor

Construction

Alex has been with Harrison Drury for over 7 years. He joined the firm after completing his studies in Bristol, where he obtained his undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in law as well as a masters degree in Law, Business and Management.

Alex qualified as a solicitor in 2019, working in the Property Litigation department at Harrison Drury, where he acted for commercial landlord and tenants, large landowners and corporate entities dealing with an array of property disputes.

In recent years, Alex has transitioned over to solely practicing construction law  and is now a valued member of the Construction Litigation team at Harrison Drury. Alex advises an array of clients including land owners, developers, contractors and other stakeholders on a range of construction contract disputes, taking a client objective driven approach to achieve the best results for his clients. Alex has experience in dealing with complex contractual disputes and is well versed on all forms of JCT and NEC standard form contracts, as well as bespoke contracts. Alex has on assisted clients in court proceedings in the Technology & Construction Courts (TCC) and adjudications.

Alex successfully led a reported case in the high court concerning unlawful forfeiture (Cumbria Zoo Co Ltd v The Zoo Investment Co Ltd [2022] EWHC 3379 (Ch)) which included initially obtaining an urgent injunction for possession of a zoo in Cumbria prior to the main court case litigation which concluded with judgment in our client’s favour in late 2022.

More recently, Alex has secured a six-figure settlement for a large contractor client in a breach of contract claim regarding an NEC4 form contract as well as obtaining multiple successful results in adjudications for clients.

Outside of work you can find me…

In his spare time, Alex is a keen sports fan and enjoys playing and watching any sport, but mainly golf and football, being a keen Manchester United fan from a young age. Alex also values spending time with his young family, walking in the Lake District whenever the opportunity arises.

Alex’s other big passion in life is music, having played the guitar and sang from a young age. Alex is the front man of Harrison Drury’s firm rock band, Harrison Fury.
