Harrison Drury’s Lorna Hodgkinson has completed a marathon solo hike in the Scottish Highlands to raise funds for the North West Blood Bikes Lancashire and Lakes charity.

Lorna walked the West Highland and Great Glen Ways back-to-back covering 191 miles in the process.

The gruelling trek was completed over an 11-day period and raised an impressive £1,845.

The proceeds will support the vital work of North West Blood Bikes Lancashire and Lakes charity in transporting urgent and emergency supplies 24 hours a day, saving thousands of lives every year.

Lorna said: “I love a challenge and this charity is a cause very close to my heart. One of the riders who tragically died in an accident last year was a member of my scuba diving club, so I wanted to do something in his memory.

“I set off on Easter Saturday, the weather was perfect and I was full of energy for the walk ahead. However, it was tough. I covered 27 miles on the longest day and in total I climbed over 19,000 feet which is two thirds of Everest’s overall height.

“The hardest part was walking on my own, however my husband provided crucial back-up at designated points along the way, with cups of tea and moral support.”

Lorna, executive administrator, added: “The backing from friends and colleagues has been fantastic with lots of encouragement via my daily blog posts. I also received donations from people I met during the walk – the generosity has been amazing.”
