Commercial Dispute Resolution & AvoidanceHelen joined Harrison Drury’s Commercial Dispute Resolution & Avoidance department in September 2015. She qualified as a solicitor in September 2010, and since then has worked at two large regional law firms; one in Norfolk and the other in West Yorkshire. She has been listed in the Legal 500 as a “Rising Star” on more than one occasion.
She studied European Law with French and German at Warwick University, before completing her Masters in International Law at Sheffield University and going on to complete the Legal Practice Course part-time at BPP Professional Education in Leeds.
Helen has experience of working within a family-owned SME before becoming a solicitor, so she understands how crucial commerciality is in the delivery of legal advice is for businesses. She also builds close working relationships with her clients enabling her to deliver advice with their long-term objectives in mind.
Helen has an excellent grasp of Court procedure, superb organisational skills, a close eye for detail and a pragmatic approach to litigation. Whilst she is able to put forth her client’s case robustly to opponents, Helen advises clients in a clear and accessible way which puts them at ease and she provides regular updates on matter progress and often most importantly to clients, on costs.
Helen frequently advises her clients in the following areas:
- Alternative Dispute Resolution, such as without prejudice meetings and mediations, both in-person and remotely via conference call, Zoom or Microsoft Teams.
- Intellectual property disputes;
- Shareholder disputes, including unfair prejudice petitions and just and equitable winding up petitions;
- Partnership disputes;
- Claims in defamation or malicious falsehood;
- Contract disputes, including those relating to the acquisition of businesses such as asset purchase and share purchase agreements;
- Professional negligence;
- Disputes relating to fraud.
Outside of work you can find me…
In her spare time, Helen enjoys keeping fit and can be regularly seen strength training on the gym floor or in Spinning and Zumba classes, often multi-tasking by listening to an audiobook or a podcast. She is also a PADI Advanced scuba diver and enjoys travel, as well as sampling the local food and drink.
