Helen Russell

HR Consultant

Employment & HR

Helen joined Harrison Drury in 2015 after 15 years in human resources where she gained extensive experience working in house for a variety of organisations and sectors.

Helen is an HR consultant and works with businesses of all shapes and sizes, as well as colleagues specialising in employment law, to provide a wide range of human resources advice including routine HR matters such as general conduct, as well as provide case management of disciplines / grievances as well as projects such as restructures and training and employment repercussions from Director / shareholder issues.

Helen also supports individuals from time to time, providing support when they find themselves subject to an unfamiliar employment process.

Helen’s earlier career working in house means that she can draw on her practical experience of the legal processes involved in employment law and she helps to coach clients about how difficult subjects might be broached and / challenging conversations dealt with.

Having a background in administration and process management Helen also brings strong organisational and data analysis to inform objective, evidence based decisions for managers and business owners, helping to ensure their business is compliant with employment legislation.

Helen draws on her wider career experience utilising a commercial and balanced approach to help clients manage their staff, proactively and reactively, and resolve difficult HR issues, finding practical solutions and helping them to make informed, appropriate and risk assessed decisions to move forward.

Helen can assist with all types of HR matters but has particular interest in helping clients with:

  • Case management
  • Process / organisational analysis and development
  • Grading and Reward structures
  • Data analysis
  • Coaching managers, HR staff and solicitors

Helen attended the University of Central Lancashire where she graduated with a BA (Hons) in Management with Law.  She then completed a Post Graduate Diploma in Personnel & Development at the University of Northampton.  She is a Chartered Fellow of CIPD and holds the long service award after 20 years service.

Helen’s notable matters include:

  • Working with other teams and specialists across the Division to achieve management of a shareholder exit on favourable terms following initial contact having been suspended
  • Project management of employment issues related to domestic staff following the death of the homeowner
  • Regular case management of Discipline / Capability / Grievance issues for clients when there is either a lack of expertise of a concern re objectivity
