Sean was admitted as a solicitor in 1990 and has over 30 years’ experience dealing with a wide range of business-related disputes. He leads the Commercial Dispute Resolution & Avoidance team. Sean graduated from Manchester Metropolitan University with a Law degree and then worked at firms in Manchester, including being a Partner at DWF for over 12 years, before relocating to Preston.

Sean is seen as a trusted adviser to his clients, forming close working relationships with them and providing clear, pragmatic solutions-orientated advice. Sean excels in heavyweight litigation and has a reputation for rescuing clients from very difficult and complex situations where large sums are at stake.

Sean has significant expertise in relation to numerous litigious areas, including:

  • Shareholder and director disputes, including unfair prejudice petitions and just and equitable winding up petitions.
  • Partnership disputes, particularly those relating to professional partnerships, such as accountants, solicitors, doctors and dentists.
  • Claims relating to defamation and/or malicious falsehood.
  • Intellectual property disputes, in particular, trade mark infringement and passing off.
  • Claims regarding breach of confidence.
  • Professional negligence claims.
  • Claims arising out of mergers and acquisitions.
  • Contractual disputes.
  • Applications for injunctive relief.

Sean has acted on many notable reported and Court of Appeal cases, which include:

  • Bank of Baroda v Rayarel [1995] 2 FLR 376
  • Cofacredit SA v Morris and another [2006] EWHC 353 (ch)
  • Boehringer Ingelheim Limited and others v Vetplus Limited [2007] EWHC 972 (Ch); [2007] FSR 28; (2007) 30(6) IPD 30043
  • Norbrook Laboratories Ltd v VetPlus Ltd and ANR 2 [2013] EWHC 40322 (QB)
  • Fleetwood Wanderers Limited (t/a Fleetwood Town Football Club) v AFC Fylde Limited [2018] EWHC 3318 (Comm)

Outside of work you can find me…

Sean is an avid record collector (late 70’s early 80’s punk explosion) and enjoys watching his beloved Blackpool FC. Sean’s interests also include history, travel, skiing and spending time with his family and friends.
